" Passenger Safety On Greyhound Buses "

A Creston, B.C., woman says more should be done to ensure passenger safety on Greyhound buses after she got caught on a bus with a man behaving erratically.

Last Thursday, Marge Crawford, 65, was on a Kelowna-bound bus when a man armed with a hammer and screwdriver, who was inhaling fumes from a can of spray paint, started pacing up and down the aisle and ripping at his chair.

“This young fellow who had weapons in his possession on board the bus — a hammer, a screwdriver, a great big huge walking stick at least five to six feet tall, as big as a small log,” she said. “I was very, very scared, very frightened.”

Crawford says she won’t be getting on a Greyhound bus again any time soon.

“It's going to take some time to recover from the trauma of the danger that we were in."

Cpl. Debbie Postnikoff with Castlegar RCMP says the man fled before officers arrived on scene.

“They could not locate any male at all matching this description,” she said.

In 2008, 22-year-old Tim McLean was beheaded by another passenger on a Greyhound bus in Manitoba. Vince Li has been found not criminally responsible and committed to Selkirk Mental Health Center.

Greyhound has since improved its security measures for onboard luggage.

But Crawford says more needs to be done to ensure passengers are safe.

Greyhound has not returned calls about the incident.
